Not all sensible security precautions rely purely on technology. A physical barrier is still an effective deterrent against many criminals - many preferring an easier target. When considering the measures to prevent a break in, even the most advanced electronic security measures simply wont STOP them happening. To prevent or at least minimise the effect of a break in, a series of 'hurdles' need to be in place. The Police are typically told to advise the 'Onion Peel Effect' start from the outside of your property, and cosider the 'layers' towards the items you need to protect. The more 'layers' there are, the more 'hurdles' the criminal will have to overcome. This means the more chances of them giving up, or if really determined the better chance of the Police attending and catching them in the act. Physically enhancing the security of doors, windows and perimeter can greatly reduce the likelihood of intrusion, yet retain pleasant aesthetics, and not affect the 'feel' or your building.
